The Writers’ Group of Goulburn

I attended my very first meeting last night at Goulburn and found everyone so lovely and so friendly that I had no trouble adding my voice to the gentle encouragement and suggestions that came forward after each person read something of their work.

There were things written just for that meeting, things brought in from budding projects and things from projects long underway. There was one man whose two-verse poem so moved me that I have the copy of it now pinned to my inspiration board set just above my monitor. I think he is a Master Poet who does not yet realize it.

There were ten of us there altogether and I felt so relaxed with the others there, I will have no trouble reading snippets from my own work or joining in the regular challenge, which is simply to write something that uses a given word – I will try and make mine convoluted. It will give me something to play with when I want a break from the Khekarian adventures.

Most importantly, there was not a big head to be seen. There was no pressure to read or perform. Nor was I inundated with questions. I was openly and genuinely accepted.

I enjoyed myself very much and will go again.

Of course it means a late night and a late start the next morning, but it’s only once a month and I do think it’s worth it.

Cheers everyone!

😀

I sent you mail on my adventures. Also very pleasant but completely different format than yours. I am beyond excited for us both though!!

Thanks, Winterbayne. Yeah, it’s interesting that we both started with a writers’ group at exactly the same time. I haven’t check my email yet, will do so now, once I grab a cup of coffee (late start this morning).

I’ve never looked into joining a writing group, but this sounds very sweet. I’m glad you had a nice time. I want to know what that man’s poem is!

Hi Willow! Thank you. I’ve never thought to join a group either, it came as a bit of a surprise. 🙂

I would LOVE to show that man’s poem, but it is not published and is his alone. He said later he had been uncertain about bringing it in and sharing it. It is also written specially for someone, making it somewhat private. I probably shouldn’t have mentioned it if I knew I wasn’t going to show it, so I apologize for that.

We have a nice writers’ group in my neighborhood. It’s great to be surrounded by kindred spirits and inspirational people 🙂 .

I’m with you there! Before I started blogging, I thought of it as advertising from a soap box and no one really caring. How wrong I was. Yes, a community, most definitely – I’m glad we found each other. 😀
