I suppose all artists are the same – all creative people – it’s certainly true for writers, every moment of every day wraps around writing, plotting or characterization in one form or another.
Even at work. While you will immerse yourself in the task at hand, particularly dealing with people, you can’t help but bring some aspect of your project in with you. Not necessarily dealing with customers, but you know in your heart that every free moment – or at any mundane task – you’re off again, exploring the world in your head and making comparisons.

If this large storage area was the hull of a ship, that door would be would be made of metal, it might have a window in it and it might go ‘Shhhh!’ when it opens.
If this road was the main highway leading into Darbec [capital city of Zumaridi], those planes in the sky would be spaceship coming in from the Relay in orbit.
If this cafeteria was aboard a spaceship, this unidentifiable piece of food might be what something from a Chiddran world looks like (and probably tastes like chicken).
We all do it… Right?
…er… It’s not just me, is it?
Okay, I got the doors wrong. Is it Shhhh or Whoosh or some other variation?
(Yes, it’s another one of my nonsense posts.)
Have a great day, everyone.
Cheers. 😀
Allyson
I get the most work done on my stories at work…sssshhhhhh.
Me, too. I used to like the mundane tasks (or jobs) the best for that, I could do other and more important things in my head. Your secret is safe with me. 😀
No, you are not alone, Allyson..
i love to make an analogy, but the problem is my colleagues sometimes don’t like it 😀
That makes you open and honest, Yuna. I don’t think your colleagues are as much fun as you are, but maybe they wish they could be.
Cheers!
Oh, yah,
Selamat Pagi
Semoga harimu menyenangkan (wish you a happy day)
🙂
Terima kasih, Yuna – Semangat pagi. I have added the new words to my list. 😀
“Ghastly,” continued Marvin, “it all is. Absolutely ghastly. Just don’t even talk about it. Look at this door,” he said, stepping through it. The irony circuits cut into his voice modulator as he mimicked the style of the sales brochure. “All the doors in this spaceship have a cheerful and sunny disposition. It is their pleasure to open for you, and their satisfaction to close again with the knowledge of a job well done.”
As the door closed behind them it became apparent that it did indeed have a satisfied sigh-like quality to it. “Hummmmmmmyummmmmmm ah!” it said.
– Douglas Adams.
Now you know!
Ah, but then I don’t let my spaceships get out of control and I never allow them an opinion. My characters, maybe, but not my ships. I like to keep anything designed by a committee well out of it. 😛
😀
Yes, but do your doors make such cool noises?
Any such doors would be terminated immediately with much violence and malice aforethought.
Does that answer your question? (And yes, I did actually enjoy Hitchhiker’s Guide, the entire trilogy of four books.)
😀
Hell yes. Rooms become starship bridges. Dances give us ideas for space battles. Delicious dinners out become metaphors for sex. Nothing is off limits, though we do change the names to protect the innocent.
Really? I thought we changed the names to protect the author.
That too 🙂
